Northern Serbia - Vojvodina (180 km in total). “Vojvodina is not a region but a mentality” said Isidora Sekulic, one of the greatest of authors of Serbian literature and during this tour we’ll see what she meant. Fruska gora is a National Park, also place where 16 Serbian Orthodox Monasteries are located and place of water springs and thermal waters.

First we will visit Krušedol Monastery – The monastery is the legacy of the last Serbian despot family of Srem-Brankovic. It was built between 1509 and 1514. The whole family including Djuradj Brankovic and Stefan Lazarevic, as well as two patriarchs of the Serb Orthodox Church, were buried in Krušedol. It is shown on the 5 Dinar coin. Continue to Grgeteg Monastery - situated in the south of Fruška Gora very close to the village of Grgeteg. The monastery church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. According to popular tradition it was founded by Despot Vuk Grgurević (known as Zmaj Ognjeni Vuk) in 1471. Sremski Karlovci - a baroque town with about 10000 people, on the banks of Danube under Fruska Gora Mountain. It played an important role in the history as a spiritual, cultural and political city in Habsburg Empire. Most important sights in the town are situated on the main square, and the view is most beautiful from Magarcev hill. It is also famous for wine, especially Bermet, and kuglof (cookie). Wine tasting in the local wine cellar. Departure towards Novi Sad and visit to Petrovaradin fortress.

Petrovaradin fortress - at the site of today's fortress from ancient times there were military forts. In Roman times, in the 1st century AD, between Petrovaradin and town today called Sremska Kamenica, there was a fortress Cusum. At the time of the Byzantine Empire in the same place there was a fortress Petricon. In the 8th century, today's Petrovaradin was in Franacka state, and from 9 century it was a part of the state of medieval Hungary. The Turks occupied the fort in the year 1526. Turkish fort, after 160 years, (1687.), had been conquered by the Austrians and the imperial court evaluates a long battle for supremacy in the Danube region.
